Cookies Policy

Last updated: June 2025  •  Applies to all users of Luxe Households

This Cookies Policy explains what cookies are, which ones Luxe Households uses, and how you can control them. We use cookies responsibly — only those necessary to make the platform work and to improve your experience.

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device (computer, tablet, or phone) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently and to provide useful information to the website owner.

Cookies are not programs and cannot carry viruses or install malware. They simply store small pieces of information that help the website remember things about your visit.

2. Types of Cookies

There are several types of cookies, categorised by their duration and purpose:

By Duration

  • Session cookies: These are temporary and are deleted from your device when you close your browser. They are essential for keeping you logged in and maintaining your shopping cart during a single visit.
  • Persistent cookies: These remain on your device for a set period or until you delete them manually. They remember your preferences across visits.

By Purpose

  • Strictly necessary cookies: Essential for the website to function. The site cannot work properly without them.
  • Functional cookies: Allow the website to remember your choices and preferences to provide a more personalised experience.
  • Analytics cookies: Help us understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it.
  • Third-party cookies: Set by external services we use, such as Google OAuth and payment processors.

3. Cookies We Use on Luxe Households

The following table describes the specific cookies used on Luxe Households:

Cookie Name Type Duration Purpose
sessionid Strictly necessary Session / 2 weeks Maintains your login session, shopping cart, and compare list. Set by Django. Without this cookie, you cannot stay logged in or maintain a cart.
csrftoken Strictly necessary 1 year A security token that protects against Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) attacks. Required for any form submission on the site including login, checkout, and reviews.
messages Functional Session Stores one-time notification messages (e.g. “Order placed successfully”) to display after page redirects. Deleted immediately after display.
Google Auth Third-party Varies If you choose to sign in with Google, Google may set its own cookies to manage the authentication flow. These are governed by Google’s Privacy Policy.
_ga, _ga_* Analytics Up to 2 years Set by Google Analytics to help us understand how visitors use the site (pages viewed, general location, device type) in aggregated form, so we can improve it. Not used to identify you personally or for advertising.

We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or behavioural profiling cookies.

4. Strictly Necessary Cookies — Why We Cannot Disable Them

Some cookies are absolutely essential for Luxe Households to function. Without them, the following would not work:

  • Logging in and staying logged in during your session.
  • Adding items to your shopping cart and proceeding to checkout.
  • Placing orders and submitting forms securely.
  • Adding products to your compare list.
  • Receiving success or error notifications after actions.

These cookies do not track you across other websites and contain no personally identifiable information beyond a random session identifier.

5. What We Do NOT Use Cookies For

We want to be transparent about what we do not do with cookies:

  • We do not use cookies to track your browsing activity across other websites.
  • We do not use cookies to build advertising or marketing profiles about you.
  • We do not share cookie data with advertising networks.
  • We do not use cookies to store your payment information, card details, or M-Pesa credentials.

6. Third-Party Cookies

Some features of Luxe Households involve third-party services that may set their own cookies:

  • Google Sign-In (OAuth): When you use “Sign in with Google”, Google may set authentication cookies to manage the sign-in flow. These are subject to Google’s Privacy Policy.
  • Google Analytics: We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our site (for example, which pages and products are viewed) so we can improve it. Google Analytics sets cookies to collect this information in aggregated form. We do not use it to identify you personally or to serve advertising. This is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy. You can opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
  • Stripe / PayPal: When you are redirected to a payment page, those providers may set cookies for fraud prevention and session management. These are governed by their respective privacy policies.
  • Leaflet / OpenStreetMap: Our delivery location map uses Leaflet.js and CartoDB tile servers. Map tile requests are made to external servers, which may log your IP address as part of standard server logging. No personal data is shared beyond this.

We recommend reviewing the privacy policies of these third-party services if you have concerns about their cookie practices.

7. How to Control and Delete Cookies

You have the right to control how cookies are used on your device. Here are your options:
